Message from the JAWS Director's Spouse

Welcome, Families of the JAWS Class of 2025!

Congratulations on your student's acceptance into JAWS and welcome to the vibrant Hampton Roads Region! We are thrilled your family is joining us on this exciting journey. Having personally experienced relocating with my spouse when attended JAWS as a student back in 2020, I can attest that it was a wonderful decision for us.

For some of you, educational environments are very familiar. For many of you, this may be the first time your student has experienced graduate-level studies and the demands that come with it. It can feel overwhelming, but rest assured, our community is here to support you every step of the way.

At JAWS, you'll find a unique blend of academia and the military. While there is plenty of structure, the focus is primarily on learning and personal growth. The dedicated faculty, staff, and current class of students are committed to ensuring your student's success across all aspects of life.

The academic calendar will soon be available for you to plan ahead, including class schedules, assignment deadlines, and holiday breaks. Most of the breaks, including Christmas and Spring Break, will coincide with the local school schedules. While there are periods of travel for students, most days allow for family time, and there are study spaces set aside on campus to help everyone focus.

Outside of academics, the Hampton Roads Region offers a wealth of recreational activities, from historical landmarks, concerts, theater, amusement parks to beach outings. We're excited to keep you informed about upcoming events and opportunities!

Once your student completes registration, they can share your contact information with us. In the meantime, connect with us on social media (JAWS Spouses’ Page) for updates and community news.

I'm eagerly anticipating the adventures ahead for your family and can't wait to meet you all in person. Time flies, and before we know it, the new school year will be upon us! Remember, I'm here for anything you need or just for a friendly chat.

Warmest Regards,

Teresa Fowler
