Branch Health Clinic Naval Station Norfolk
Welcome to the Military Medicine Department. This department is
staffed with military and civilian doctors, physician assistants
(PA's), nurse practitioners (NP's), Independent Duty Corpsmen
(IDC's), registered nurses (RN's), Licensed Practical Nurses
(LPN's) and Hospital Corpsmen. It is open from 0700 to 1900 and
sees patients on an appointment only basis. Patients should arrive
on time for their appointment time and should bring their medical
records.
If you report to the clinic without an appointment and you
believe that your condition is urgent, please let us know
immediately. DO NOT wait in line. For non-urgent problems,
you will be evaluated by clinic staff and referred to one of
several medical care services available to our beneficiaries. This
include:
- Scheduling a same day (if available) or next available
appointment.
- Referral to the Military Acute Care Department (for new
injuries or illnesses that require urgent care).
- Referral to the Fast Track clinic (for minor, uncomplicated
illnesses).
The primary method of obtaining health care is by scheduling
an appointment with the assistance of the Tricare Service Center.
Patients who desire an appointment should call 1-877-874-2273 or 1-866-645-4584. A courtesy phone is available
at the reception desk. Clinic staff can provide assistance when
necessary and can be reached at 314-6245 or 314-6246.
For acute care, call (757) 953-8760
Monday - Friday: 0700-1600
If you have an emergency, call 444-3333 (on Naval Station) or call 911 (civilian community) to request an ambulance. Please do not bring patients to the clinic after normal business hours as this may delay access to the care they need.
Patient care provider schedules are based on appointments of
15-20 minutes per patient (15 minutes for follow-up appointments).
This allows the provider to focus on your main medical problem. If
you have multiple or complex medical problems you should request
two consecutive appointments when you call the Tricare Service
Center or ask to speak to one of the clinic nurses prior to
arranging your appointment.
Appointments for health care are in great demand and we work
very hard to ensure that all available appointments are properly
used. When a patient chooses to just not show up we lose the
opportunity to use that appointment. This is costly to the Navy and
reduces the number of appointments available to other personnel.
If you make an appointment and are unable to keep it for any
reason we ask that you call the Tricare Service Center prior to
your appointment time to inform them and to reschedule if
necessary.
