Norfolk, VA. The Joint Forces Staff College (name changed from the Armed Forces Staff College in 2000) was established on August 13th, 1946, as a result of efforts by General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. For six decades, the Staff College, located at 7800 Hampton Blvd in Norfolk, has been providing joint education to U.S. and Multinational military officers and selected personnel from civilian interagency organizations.
On Friday, June 23rd, a reception for local community leaders was held to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Staff College. During the reception, the Staff College formally dedicated the Ike Skelton Library and the Owen Pickett Wargaming Center.
The Honorable Mr. Skelton, a Representative from Missouri, was elected to the Ninety-fifth and to the fourteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1977-present). The Honorable Mr. Pickett, a former Representative from Virginia, was elected to the One Hundredth and six succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1987-January 3, 2001). He was not a candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Seventh Congress. Both gentlemen attended this event, along with a number of prominent government, business, and educational leaders from the local area.
