Mark Erickson
Department of State Academic Chair
Mark Erickson, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, is currently the Department of State Academic Chair at the National Defense University’s Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia.
Prior to serving at the JFSC, he was Deputy Political Counselor at U.S. Embassy Amman. Other overseas tours include Cairo, Dublin, Baghdad, Shanghai, Damascus, and Guangzhou. In Washington, he served in NEA/NGA as an Iraq Desk Officer and in EUR/RPM as Deputy Director for NATO Policy and Partnerships. Prior to joining the Foreign Service in 1999, Mark worked as a Legislative Assistant on Capitol Hill.
He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the George Washington University. Mark is a 2015 graduate of the National Security Executive Leadership Seminar. He speaks Arabic and Mandarin. Mark is the recipient of several State Department awards, including four individual Superior Honor Awards.
