Rick Gribling

Dr. Rick Gribling, Ph.D., USA (Ret.)
Assistant Professor
Joint and Combined Warfighting School

Rick is currently an Assistant Professor on the faculty of the Joint Combined Warfighting School (JCWS), a part of the greater National Defense University system. Rick has been a professor at this school since 2009. His academic focus has been most recently facilitating and instructing the joint contingency planning portion of the JCWS curriculum.

Prior to joining the faculty, Rick spent 30 years in the US Army retiring as an infantry colonel. His tactical and command assignments included tours in the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division, The Third US Infantry, The Old Guard and the 1st Infantry Division. He commanded the 2nd Battalion, 16th Bradley Infantry in the 1st Infantry Division. His senior staff assignments have been
as the operations and plans officer for VII US Corps and the Combined Forces Command, Republic of Korea.

Rick is a graduate of the Infantry Officer’s Advanced Course, US Army Command and General Staff College, the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS), and the US Army War College. Rick received a bachelor’s degree in history from the Virginia Military Institute. He holds two master’s degrees in Public Administration (Central Michigan University) and Advanced Military
Studies (SAMS). His Doctorate is in Strategic Leadership and Management (Regent University).

Rick is married for 39 years to Rebekah and has one married daughter, Rachel Gribling Moreland, who currently resides in Edinburgh, Scotland.
