CAPT Michael Hoskins, USN
Military Faculty

A native of Chesapeake, VA, Captain Hoskins graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1998 and earned his Master’s degree in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego in 2006. Captain Hoskins received his commission from Officer Candidate School in April of 1999, and was later designated a Naval Aviator in February of 2001.

Captain Hoskins’ operational assignments include flying the UH-3H/VH-3A as part of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron TWO (HC-2), Norfolk, VA, from 2001 to 2004, Captain Hoskins served in a multitude of assignments including the Squadron Quality Assurance Officer and completed detachments to both the 5th and 6th Fleet AORs. Subsequent operational assignments included tours with Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO TWO (HSC-22) and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO SIX (HSC-26). While serving as a plank owner of HSC-22, Captain Hoskins was named the Naval Helicopter Association Pilot of the Year (2007) for Region Five and obtained his Officer of the Deck (At Sea) qualification on board USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3). As a Department Head at HSC-26, Captain Hoskins deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Detachment One (Manama, Bahrain) Officer-in-Charge, and served as the Squadron Tactics Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer. He commanded Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO TWO (HSC-22) in support of SECOND, FOURTH, FIFTH, and SIXTH Fleet operations. He later served as Air Boss on board USS BATAAN (LHD 5) and deployed in support of FIFTH and SIXTH Fleet operations.

Ashore, Captain Hoskins served as an MH-60S Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor pilot at Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron THREE (HSC-3) and as a Branch Head Deputy (N1F1) for United States Fleet Forces Command. A Joint Qualified Officer, Captain Hoskins’ Joint assignments include the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command where he served as a joint aerospace planner deploying in support of various operations and exercises assisting USAFRICOM, USPACOM, and USSOUTHCOM. He is currently assigned as Military Faculty for the Joint Forces Staff College where he teaches Joint Professional Military Education to senior officers and NCOs.

Captain Hoskins Military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various unit, campaign, and service awards. He has flown over two thousand six hundred hours in fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
