Dr. Bryan Leese, PhD.

Associate Professor, Joint and Combined Warfighting School
Before arriving at the Joint Forces Staff College in September 2023, Dr. Leese served as military faculty in the U.S. Naval War Colleges Joint Military Operations Department, Newport, Rhode Island. Before that position, Dr. Leese served as the Chair of the Defense Intelligence Department at the National Intelligence University, Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Leese is a retired US Navy Captain and a career intelligence officer. A fully qualified Joint Service Officer, he has served in numerous operational intelligence tours at sea and in support of ground combat operations. Dr. Leese received his Ph.D. in War Studies at King’s College London and holds a master’s degree from Texas Christian University (Liberal Arts) and the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle (Strategic Studies). He received his undergraduate degree in applied geography (GIS mapping) from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Leese has published numerous articles and is currently working on a book focused on the evolution of U.S. Navy operational intelligence at sea during the Cold War.
