David J. Lorenzo, PhD.
Associate Professor, Joint and Combined Warfighting School
David J. Lorenzo is an Associate Professor in the Joint and Combined Warfighting School in the Joint and Combined Staff College, National Defense University. Before joining JCWS, he was a policy specialist in the US Department of Education and held faculty positions at Jamestown University, Virginia Wesleyan University, and the National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan.
His areas of academic interest are political and international relations theory, US foreign policy, foreign policy decision-making, and the politics of Taiwan and China.
He has published five books as well as more than a dozen other publications. These include War and American Foreign Policy (Springer, 2021), Debating War (Routledge, 2015), and Conceptions of Chinese Democracy: Reading Sun Yat-sen, Chiang Kai-shek, and Chiang Ching-kuo (The Johns Hopkins University Press, 2013).
He attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he received a BA in Political Science, Yale University, where he received a Ph.D. in Political Science, and the 2007 NEH Summer Faculty Training Seminar on Chinese culture at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
