Colonel Daniel “Dan” Sukman is a native of Farmingdale, New York. He was commissioned as a military police officer from Norwich University in 2000 as a distinguished military graduate with a bachelor of arts in criminal justice. He holds a Master of Arts degree in business and organizational management from Webster University, and a Master of Arts in public administration from Liberty University.

Dan’s past assignments as a military police officer include Platoon Leader and Executive Officer, 57th Military Police Company, Waegon Korea. Deputy Provost Marshal, Army Central Command Kuwait, Camp Doha. Deputy Provost Marshal, 101st Airborne Division, Brigade Provost Marshal, 2nd BCT, 101st Airborne Division, Company Commander, HHC 2-101 BSTB, 101st Airborne Division, Police Training Team Chief, 716th Military Police Battalion, Fort Campbell and Baghdad Iraq. In 2009, Dan transitioned to the Army’s Strategic Plans and Policy (FA 59) career field. His assignments as an Army Strategist include Joint Crisis Response Planner, HQ, USEUCOM, Stuttgart Germany, Branch Chief, Joint and Army Concepts Division, Army Capabilities Integration Center at Fort Eustis, and Land Plans Chief at the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command (JECC).

Colonel Sukman’s military schools include the Military Police Officer Basic and Captains Course, CAS3, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Anti-Terrorism Program Manager Course, Domestic Violence Intervention Training, the Defense Strategist Course, Command and General Staff College, the Air Command and Staff College (Distance Learning), the Basic Strategic Arts Program, NATO Crisis Action Planner’s Course, JPME II, DSCA II, Joint Fire Power Controllers Course, the British Joint Planner’s Course, the NATO Comprehensive Operational Planners Course, Red Team Member Course, the Air War College (Distance Learning), and Airborne and Air Assault Schools. Dan is currently enrolled in the U.S. Army War College and scheduled to graduate in 2022.

Colonel Sukman’s deployments include Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 2002-2003, 2005-2006, and 2007-2008, and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 2016. His Joint experience includes 36 months as a Joint Crisis Action Planner for USEUCOM from 2009-2012 and 44 months as a joint planner at the JECC from 2015-2019.

Dan is a contributing author to the book On War: A Primer, and has published multiple articles, essays and book reviews in publications such as Military Review, The Canadian Military Journal, Army Magazine, The Strategy Bridge, Small Wars Journal, Foreign Policy, The Marine Corps Gazette, Joint Forces Quarterly, Task and Purpose, and The Journal of Military History.

Colonel Sukman’s awards include the Bronze Star (1OLC), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (1OLC) the Joint Achievement Medal (2OLC), the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal, the Iraq and Afghanistan Campaign Medals, the GWOT Expeditionary and Service Medal, the Korea Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (5th Award), the Joint Staff Identification Badge, Airborne and Air Assault Badge, the NATO Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation (3OLC), the Joint Meritorious Unit Citation (1OLC), and the German Armed Forces Badge in Gold.
