COL Stephen Tribble, Ph.D.

Colonel (COL) Tribble reported to the National Defense University (NDU), Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) (Norfolk, VA) in July 2020. His previous assignment was as a student at the NDU’s Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS). COL Tribble enlisted in the US Army Reserve as a Construction Equipment Repairer in 1992, was commissioned through the Missouri Army National Guard Officer Candidate School in 1997 and branched as an engineer officer in 1998. After several years of service in both the Army National Guard and Army Reserve, he accessed into the Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) program in 2007 and transitioned to Functional Area 59 (Strategist) in 2020.

COL Tribble served his company command as Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 15th Psychological Operations Battalion. His principal staff assignments include Deputy Section Chief, CJ5 Contingency Force Plans, Headquarters, Resolute Support; Executive Officer, USCENTCOM Deputy J5; and Joint Strategic Planner, USCENTCOM J5 Plans. His operational deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom II, Operation Freedom Sentinel (Iraq), Operation New Dawn (Iraq), Operation Inherent Resolve (Qatar), and Operation Resolute Support (Afghanistan).

COL Tribble is a graduate of the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS), Canadian Joint Command and Staff Programme, the Defense Strategy Course, Reserve Component National Security Course, Joint Engineer Operations Course, US Army School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS), and US Army Command and General Staff College. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Sport Management from Western Illinois University, a master’s degree in Military Affairs and Science from the US Army Command and General Staff College, a Master’s Degree in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the National Defense University, and a Doctorate Degree in Higher Education Leadership from Indiana State University.

COL Tribble’s major awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal (1OLC), the Army Reserve Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), the National Defense Service Medal (2BSD).

COL Tribble is married to his wife Marea (Osage, IA) of over 30 years. He has one son, Taylor, who is 30 years old, married (Amanda) with two children (Evelyn, Charlotte), is a veteran of the Kentucky Army National Guard, and owns/operates a chain of furniture stores in the Cincinnati, OH area. He also has one daughter Megan who is 27 years old and serves as the E-Commerce Manager for Taylor’s business.
