Colonel Carl E. Cooper Jr., USMC

Colonel Cooper joined the Faculty, Joint Forces Staff College in July 2021 and was competitively selected by the Commandant as the JAWS Director in July 2022. Colonel Cooper was commissioned in May 1993, following graduation from Louisiana State University. 

Colonel Cooper's command assignments include Commanding Officer, 3d Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment and Commanding Officer, 3d Marine Regiment. His staff assignments include Future Operations Officer, Current Operations Branch, Plans, Policies, and Operations Department, Headquarters Marine Corps; Deputy Future Operations Officer, G3, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward); Future Operations Planner, G3, II Marine Expeditionary Force; Executive Officer, 8th Marine Regiment; Executive Officer to Commander, U.S. Africa Command; and Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, G3 and Chief of Staff, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific.
 
Colonel Cooper is a graduate of Marine Corps Command and Staff College and National War College, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in History, Master of Military Studies, and Master of Science in National Security Strategy.
