Lieutenant Colonel Jon Stofka, a native of Waterloo, New York, graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1995. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 1997 after attending the Officer Candidate Course. Upon completion of The Basic School in October 1998, he reported to Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, and was designated a Naval Aviator in 2000. He attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College from 2009-2010 and received a Master of Military Studies from Marine Corps University. He also holds a master’s degree in systems science from Binghamton University and completed the Red Team Member’s Course at the University of Foreign Military and Cultural Studies.

A CH-46E pilot, his service in the operating forces include a deployment with the 15th MEU during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in 2003, service as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) with 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines during OIF II in 2004, and a deployment to Al Taqaddum, Iraq with HMM-268 in 2006. He has also served as an instructor pilot and Operations Officer for the CH-46E Fleet Replacement Squadron, HMM(T)164, from 2007-2009 and a Congressional Liaison with United States Africa Command from 2010-2013. During his most recent assignment (2013-2017), Lieutenant Colonel Stofka served as the Red Team Leader and Air Officer for 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade home based in Okinawa, Japan. During this time period, 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade participated in multiple joint and combined operations and exercises with partner nations across the Pacific to include Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Nepal.

Lieutenant Colonel Stofka has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal (seven Strike/Flight), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards, one with Combat “V”), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and other personal, unit and campaign awards.
